about

In 2001 I tried to make a piece of music with multiple parts or movements to perform, record and release. I kept rewriting it and re-editing it. Performing different parts of it live to try different dynamics. I was mostly dirt poor but had access to various instruments and recording equipment at different times, though. I learned instruments. I fucked with tapes and microphones and four tracks. I tried to start bands to play parts of it. I played a show with Bradford Cox and he called us "The Floodlight Collective." That band kinda turned into Deerhunter which I was in way back when. The guy that named Deerhunter (Dan Walton) and was the first drummer and I became great friends and played shows with me sneaking in some of these ideas. The theme had to do with how I was forced to find a new home after my family disintegrated. It was about how my old home looked as I was leaving it, how everywhere felt like home when I was without a home, freedom, depression, disassociation, tension, tragedy, peace during times of chaos, falling in and out of love, et cetera... So... much of this piece could be easily construed as kind of a downer. But, it was my life for awhile. after spending several years moving from Marietta, living mostly in Atlanta (where all of the recording took place), brief stints in Ohio, New York City, and Vieques Puerto Rico, I got most of the ideas recorded by about 2006, but I had already kinda moved on. So, I never finished it or released it. Not exactly the most satisfying experience, but not without quite a bit of effort over the years. I am done. This is it. 5 tracks at about one half hour. At one point this was alot longer. This is as done as it is gonna get tho.

The near-constant organ drone is completely intentional. Much of this isn't exactly in 440 standard tuning, as the organ was slightly flatted over time and the guitars were tuned to it.
